Hired by Manchester United's decision-makers-in-chief INEOs in November 2024, head coach Ruben Amorim was expected to lead the Red Devils to glory following a tumultuous stint under the stewardship of Erik ten Hag. But the recent all-Manchester derby, which Amorim's side lost 3-0, could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
The Portuguese tactician's maiden campaign at the Old Trafford helm concluded with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, while they also finished 15th in the Premier League table. A summer of new additions – including Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha – has not improved on-the-pitch proceedings much, however.

The question now, although journalist Samuel Luckhurst claims that club higher-ups are keen to support the ex-Sporting CP boss, is how long Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his entourage persist with their hire, who sticks rigidly with his precious 3-4-3/3-4-2-1 system. But how does the ever-present Premier League table, since Amorim was appointed, look?
Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City Make Up Top Four

To little to no surprise, Arne Slot's reigning champons, Liverpool, are atop of the ever-present Premier League standings. The Dutchman – who adopted a ready-made team courtesy of Jurgen Klopp's squad building – has earned 68 points since Amorim was appointed by his side's arch-rivals. During that time, they've accrued a +35 goal difference.
Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, thanks to their defensive solidity, have a better goal difference (+37) than the reigning champions of England – but they've racked up 64 points in 31 matches, which is six points more than Enzo Maresca in west London with Chelsea. Reigning champions of the Europa Conference League, they've got a goal difference of 19.
In fourth, and perhaps surprisingly, are Manchester City. Before last term, Pep Guardiola's men became the first manager in Premier League history to win four titles in a row but, since Amorim's arrival on the other side of Manchester, the Citizens have chalked up 54 points, which is four fewer than Chelsea and 10 fewer than Arsenal.
The Likes of Bournemouth, Forest and Villa Middle of the Pack

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace – two clubs that ended their trophy droughts in 2025 with the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, respectively – follow in fifth and sixth. Utterly galvanised by the arrival of Andoni Iraola, who could be on United's managerial shortlist should they part ways with Amorim, Bournemouth have been a force to be reckoned with.
And Bournemouth's brilliant record has continued into 25/26 despite the Cherries having their back line decimated over the summer months. Across the 31-match period, the south coast outfit have posted 50 points alongside Nottingham Forest, who have recently sacked Nuno Espirito Santo and replaced him with Ange Postecoglou, and Aston Villa.

Brighton & Hove Albion, under Fabian Hurzeler, have impressed for the most part; as have Brentford under former boss Thomas Frank. Respectively, they've racked up 46 and 44 points since Amorim took over at the Theatre of Dreams. Sandwiched inbetween are Everton, who have picked up 45 points and have a +7 goal difference in that period.

Fulham, led by the enigmatic Maro Silva, have endured a mixed bag of results over the last couple of season – and, as a result, are 13th in the all-round table with 41 points from the 31 matches. Following close behind on five fewer points are Wolverhampton Wanderers, who will look to climb the standings under the stewardship of Vitor Pereira.
Up next are Graham Potter's West Ham United. The English manager, formerly of Brighton and Chelsea, is walking on thin ice after a tricky start to the new campaign; and that is evidenced by their 34-point tally since Amorim moved from Portugal to England. In that time frame, the east London side have accrued a goal difference of -17. They are just in front of Spurs.
That's right – the reigning champions of Europe's second-tier competition struggled from a domestic standpoint under Postecoglou last time out, finishing 17th in the table. By virtue of having 31 points in the same number of matches, they are 16th in the ever-present standings – but that could all change following the exciting arrival of ex-Brentford manager Frank.
Amorim's Man Utd Rock-Bottom with 31 Points

Unfortunately for those associated with the Old Trafford faithful, there have been plenty of records left in ruins at the feet of Amorim since he replaced Ten Hag in late 2024 – and the start of 2025/26 (four points from four games) is the club's poorest start to a league campaign since the 1992/93 campaign, which was the first-ever Premier League season.
His side's performance in their penalty shootout loss to fourth-tier side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup was a sackable offence in itself; and their record in England's top flight just confuses matters even further. Of all the Premier League sides that have remained in England's primary division since Amorim arrived, they have picked up the fewest points.
In that time, United have tallied just 31 points – the same as the aforementioned Spurs – but their unfavourable goal difference (-13) sees them at the foot of the Premier League table. Whether the 40-year-old will be able to conclude 2025/26 in the Old Trafford duguout does remain to be seen given how poorly things are going.
