Marcus Rashford impressed in Barcelona's 6-0 win over Valencia
Marcus Rashford has delivered a five-word message after experiencing his best moment in a Barcelona shirt since his season-long loan switch from Manchester United. The 27-year-old joined Barca during the summer but had suffered a challenging start to life in Catalonia, failing to notch a goal or provide an assist in his opening three outings.
Nevertheless, Rashford rose to the occasion on Sunday, delivering a superb display during Barcelona's 6-0 thrashing of Valencia. After Fermin Lopez gave Barca the lead, Rashford crafted his side's second goal, delivering a sublime cross for former Leeds United forward Raphinha to convert at the far post.
It was a delivery that United supporters had grown accustomed to witnessing from Rashford, who shone against Valencia before being substituted in the 68th minute. He managed 46 touches, fashioned three opportunities, attempted two efforts, completed four ball recoveries, earned one foul and achieved an 88 per cent pass completion rate.
Following his contribution to Barcelona's emphatic triumph over Valencia, Rashford, who boasts 20.5million followers, posted on Instagram to address his new club's fan, reports the Manchester Evening News.. Accompanied by three images of him in action, he declared: "What a night! ! [blue circle emoji and red circle emoji]. Visca Barca."
Lopez and Raphinha both secured braces on Sunday night while Robert Lewandoski came off the bench to score twice. "From the beginning, we showed what we wanted to do, and that's what we've seen," Barca manager Hansi Flick told Movistar post-match.
"Not just Fermin, everyone has fought and had fun on the pitch."
"The team has been fantastic in every position. The three points are perfect, and for me it's great to have to choose between Ferran [Torres] and Lewandowski."
Rashford's success with Barcelona came just hours after United suffered another defeat to rivals Manchester City. Ruben Amorim's difficult first 10 months in charge at Old Trafford continued with Phil Foden opening the scoring and Erling Haaland bagging a brace.
The 3-0 result means United are experiencing their worst start to a season in 33 years. Since arriving at Old Trafford, Amorim has won just eight of his 31 Premier League games in charge.
Barcelona are next in action when they travel to Newcastle United in the Champions League on Wednesday. Rashford will be hoping to continue his fine form against the Magpies with him having five goals and four assists against them.
