Ruben Amorim continues to enjoy backing from the Manchester United hierarchy despite overseeing the club's most dismal start to a campaign in 33 years.
Sunday's 3-0 thrashing at Manchester City leaves Amorim with an appalling record of just eight victories from 31 Premier League matches. United sit rock bottom of a table featuring the 17 ever-present top-flight sides since his debut in the dugout on November 24.
A source close to Amorim acknowledges it is "incredible" that his job isn't genuinely under threat despite suffering 16 defeats in those 31 league encounters.
United splashed £225.32million on four new signings during the summer transfer window, yet they've managed just one win from their opening four league fixtures and netted merely one goal from open play across six hours of football.
Wedged between their woeful league displays was the embarrassing League Cup exit to fourth-tier Grimsby Town last month. United's sole remaining shot at silverware this season lies in the FA Cup, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Amorim, 40, remains tied to United until 2027 and has doubled down on his commitment to the 3-4-2-1 formation he favours.
The Portuguese manager emphasised that if United wish to alter their tactical approach, they'll need to replace the manager.
"Guys, I understand that and I accept," Amorim said regarding his league statistics. "It is not a record you should have in Manchester United.

"There are a lot of things - you have no idea what happened during these months - but I accept that. I am not going to change.
"When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man. We will talk about that every game that we lose. I don't believe in that, in the system, or whatever. I believe in my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change.

"My message is that I am going to give everything. I will do everything, always thinking about what is best for the club. That was always the same message.
"It is not my decision, the rest (on whether United change manager). Until I am here, I will do my best. I really want to win games. I am suffering more than them."
