Loanees in action for their clubs

Six Reds featured in total

Action ranges from English football to the Scottish Premiership

Nottingham Forest’s loan stars enjoyed productive weeks across the EFL and Scottish Premiership, with six Reds in action for their respective clubs.

Joe Gardner made his first start for Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy last Tuesday after recently recovering from an injury sustained in pre-season. Despite the Stags suffering a 1-0 loss against Harrogate Town, Gardner was a standout performer for Mansfield.

Over the weekend, Gardner scored his first goal for the Stags in their 1-1 draw with Stevenage at the One Call Stadium. After collecting the ball from the goalkeeper, Gardner ran the length of the pitch before curling the ball into the bottom-right corner to ensure the Stags took a share of the points.

After making his international debut for Northern Ireland last week, Jamie McDonnell went straight back into the starting XI for Mansfield, completing the full 90 minutes.

In the last five league fixtures in which McDonnell has featured for the Stags, they have not conceded a goal from open play, highlighting the impact the Northern Ireland international has made on the team.

Also at Mansfield, Kyle McAdam returned from injury in the EFL Trophy against Harrogate but was an unused substitute during their match on Saturday.

In League Two, Josh Powell came off the bench at half-time in Colchester United’s 1-0 defeat against Accrington Stanley.

The young defender completed the second 45 minutes, earning more valuable game time during his first professional loan spell away from the club.

George Murray-Jones played the fourth match of his loan spell with Chester FC as the Seals progressed to the third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup with a 2-1 win against Stalybridge Celtic.

The Forest stopper made a crucial save in the dying moments to preserve the win for Chester.

North of the border in Scotland, Esapa Osong was back in action for Motherwell as he came off the bench in the second half of the Well’s 1-1 draw with Dundee.

Motherwell remain unbeaten during his loan spell with the Scottish outfit.

Donnell McNeilly was not involved for Wycombe Wanderers over the weekend, with the forward still building his fitness. He is expected to return to action later this month.

Finally, Tyler Bindon was not involved for Sheffield United over the weekend, having travelled to New Zealand for the Soccer Ashes against Australia. Bindon completed 180 minutes over the two matches.
