The Kansas City Chiefs drafted tackle Kingsley Suamataia in the 2nd round of the 2024 NFL Draft, believing they had a long-term fit on the outside. Poor results forced Kingsley to attempt to shift to the inside after the 2024 season, starting at left guard in the first two weeks of the season. Early returns haven't been kind to the guard, with his 49.6 PFF Week 2 grade highlighting this fact. A grade that would be easier to accept if it weren't for the struggles the week before as well.
Blocking inside might offer more help, but when you're matching up against the Eagles and forced to guard Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, your interior is going to be tested. For the Chiefs, this is another reason to wonder if perhaps the offensive lineman is just the draft bust he appeared to be. Last season was ugly enough to wonder if Kansas City would've been better off just to turn the page and find another answer.

This is also the part where Chiefs fans might question the trade of veteran Joe Thuney. While last year's offensive line was a complete mess at the end of the year, it wasn't the fault of the accomplished veteran. Thuney was sent to the Bears due to contract concerns with Kansas City working to both improve the offensive line and move around its cap space.
Thuney spent the end of last year playing tackle due to the lack of options at the position. The results from this are hardly fair to judge for an aging veteran who has made a career dominating on the inside. Leaving room to question whether or not the Chiefs were wise to move away from the current Bear. Regardless, there is no denying that Suamataia isn't getting the job done in the first weeks of the season.
Kansas City could look to the bench with Mike Caliendo being the first option that comes to mind. While the guard isn't going to excite fans, it is hard to believe the guard could be anything but an upgrade. Suamataia put together a performance that opens this door or could lead to the Chiefs searching for other options.
Free agency has very little to offer, but it is hard to believe the trade market couldn't offer an upgrade over a player who has disappointed at every turn. [While GM Brett Veach and the KC front office](https://kckingdom.com/chiefs-already-having-buyer-remorse-major-offseason-addition-01k550j2c26h) rarely disappoint, there is no denying the guard has been an epically frustrating miss.
