In their current state, Manchester United need a spark and a mood-lifter more than a tactical adjustment, and one wonderkid is perfectly placed to provide it.
After a 3-0 loss to Man City, where positives were few and far between, Man Utd are staring at 14th place in the league table, and the fixtures aren’t getting any easier.
As much as Ruben Amorim’s selection and tactical decisions have come under the scanner, and rightly so, this team’s issues are as much about a lack of confidence as well.
Sometimes, all it takes is one player who hasn’t been caught in the malaise to drag the others out of it. Amorim can hand him his debut to do that.

Ruben Amorim can write next chapter of Man Utd history
Some of the brightest moments at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson retired have come when academy products come out of nowhere and capture the fans’ imagination.
Every manager since Sir Alex has had a player who personified their spell, regardless of how bleak it was.
It started with Adnan Januzaj under David Moyes, when the Old Trafford faithful almost exclusively went to watch games to see what the boy wonder would come up with.
Louis van Gaal had Marcus Rashford, history has been kind to Jose Mourinho regarding Scott McTominay, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer unleashed “Rashford-Greenwood-Martial”.

Even Ralf Rangnick saw a spark in Anthony Elanga, and he’s been proven right, while Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo gave Man Utd fans hope when things were bleak under Erik ten Hag.
For Ruben Amorim, the answer is right in front of him. Shea Lacey has the playing style to get the fans off their seats and the form to merit a debut this season. He can be the next chapter in Man Utd’s history by becoming the personification of Amorim’s era.
Shea Lacey can bring a spark to Man Utd
As a silky, left-footed attacker, Lacey is exactly the kind of player who can take the ball and create something out of nothing due to his sheer talent.
Injury worries have repeatedly halted his momentum at the youth level, but it speaks volumes about his talent that he still looks a class apart whenever he plays.
He is the kind of player United’s DNA is built on, and one who would have been nurtured to a world-class level by someone like Sir Alex.
The current United side has options in attack, but Lacey’s potential debut would be about so much more than an option.
Lacey represents United in its purest form, and at a time when the players look burdened by the glare of expectation, they need a free spirit to ignite a spark back into the team.
Amorim, for all his reputation for championing the youth, has been curiously dismissive of the same at United. He can hit two birds with one stone by awarding Lacey his deserved debut.
Sometimes, all it takes is one player to put their hand up and spark the team into life.
