Bryan Mbeumo’s reaction to one of his Manchester United teammates in their derby defeat shows why Ruben Amorim must make one change against Chelsea.
Manchester United slumped to a third league defeat of the season as Manchester City eased to a 3-0 victory in a one-sided derby at the Etihad.
Ruben Amorim handed Benjamin Šeško his full debut, but it was Pep Guardiola’s side who struck first, Phil Foden finding the net midway through the opening half. United tried to respond before the break but couldn’t carve out a decisive chance.
City tightened their grip after the restart, with Erling Haaland doubling the lead and then striking again shortly after to seal his brace and leave United with no way back.
Bryan Mbeumo and Casemiro both went close to reducing the deficit, but neither could convert. Soaked in heavy Manchester rain, City comfortably saw out the closing stages to secure a commanding derby win.
Mbeumo’s reaction to United teammate vs City
Mbeumo attempted to drag his team forward in this game, with constant runs in behind and several dangerous shots but he was unsuccessful.
Gianluigi Donnarumma produced a wonderful save to deny the Cameroon international after a tremendous effort on the volley. Meanwhile, Altay Bayındır was a bag of nerves all game.
Whether it was taking a heavy touch and almost gifting City a goal or going down too early for Haaland’s first, the Turkish international simply looked out of his depth.
After Haaland netted City’s third of the game, Mbeumo was spotted screaming at his goalkeeper to keep his head up. Bayındır looked dejected.
You need a goalkeeper to bring confidence to the team and Bayındır is simply unable to do that.
Lammens must start vs City
Amorim’s decision to keep Bayındır between the sticks and leave Senne Lammens out of the team has backfired and he now needs to bring the new signing into the team against Chelsea.
In all five games so far this season, the United goalkeeper has made mistakes which have cost his team. Mbeumo’s reaction shows that even the outfield players know that Bayındır is drained of confidence.
As a player, you simply cannot have that thought on the pitch. While you need to have the utmost confidence in every player on the pitch, the most important are probably the centre-backs and goalkeeper.

Lammens’ quality is still largely unknown to most United fans but there is genuinely not any other alternative right now. He has previously explained that he remains calm in the situations Bayındır cannot.
“I think one of the best attributes you can have as a goalkeeper is staying calm under pressure, in any circumstances, even if you make a mistake or something. You just move on and try to give your best to the team,” he said when describing his style.
United will need him to show that kind of calmness on the pitch at Old Trafford.
