Ruben Amorim is battling to maintain the trust of his Manchester United squad following their derby humiliation.
United's 3-0 thrashing at Manchester City has intensified the scrutiny on Amorim, with the Portuguese manager now fighting for his position.
It is believed several of United's experienced players have grown increasingly irritated and bewildered by Amorim's stubborn adherence to his tactical approach and formation.
Amorim's rigid formation and his unwillingness to consider alternative setups is said to have sparked significant unease among influential squad members.
Certain United stars are understood to believe Amorim is doing them a disservice by persistently demanding they operate within a system they are ill-suited to, reports the Mirror.
The pressure is building on Amorim to orchestrate a United revival after the disappointing beginning to their campaign, which has yielded just four points from four matches.
The Manchester Evening News reported on Monday that Amorim retains the support of the club's hierarchy, despite a record of just eight wins from 31 Premier League games.
United are statistically the worst team of the ever-present top flight sides since his appointment on November 24.
However, the defiant 40 year-old stuck to his guns after the 3-0 defeat to City on Sunday, insisting that he will not alter his system and if the club wants a change they should look elsewhere.
"Guys, I understand that and I accept," Amorim said of his Premier League record. "It is not a record you should have in Manchester United. There are a lot of things - you have no idea what happened during these months - but I accept that. I am not going to change.
"When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man. We will talk about that every game that we lose. I don't believe in that, in the system, or whatever. I believe in my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change.
"My message is that I am going to give everything. I will do everything, always thinking about what is best for the club. That was always the same message.
"It is not my decision, the rest (on whether United change manager). Until I am here, I will do my best. I really want to win games. I am suffering more than them."
