Saturday was not a good day for Leeds United fans on and off the pitch. The Whites succumbed to their second away loss of the season, continuing the poor run of form away from home.
It was a game that could have ended as a draw for Daniel Farke’s side. Unfortunately, things did not go Leeds’ way after 90 minutes – a shocking own goal from Gabriel Gudmundsson handed Fulham all three points.

Farke’s approach to the second half was too conservative, inviting pressure from the home side. Marco Silva bringing on Kevin sparked the game into life, as the Brazilian tormented Leeds down the left flank. It was his effort that was saved, leading to the corner that produced the own goal.

Daniel Farke’s side are on the road once again, this time to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Vitor Pereira’s side are also not on the best of starts this season, picking up zero points in four games. But the Portuguese coach has been given confidence from his side’s performance against Newcastle.
Pereira is keen to see Wolves win some points in their next few games, starting with Leeds United.
“This is the time to be together, not to complain, because I’m very proud. I believe that we can increase the level of the team if we have time to work with the team, if we had time to work on the pitch, we can increase the level.
“The first week we will have time to be together and to work together on the pitch, it will be the next week for the first time in this season. What I saw this game was tactically, mentally, a team with energy, with spirit, with belief in themselves, and this is for me is the way to increase our level and to start to getting points.”
Leeds United need to embrace conservative style
The best way forward for Leeds is to embrace what Daniel Farke said in the press conference. The German believes that the attacking quality in the side is low, and thus the team cannot fully play the style he wants. Leeds have been good in midfield and defence, with the results against Everton and Newcastle showing that. If the club want to stand a chance at survival, a safety-first style might be the best solution.
