The 2025 season could have been the year that the infamous Philadelphia Eagles "tush push" play was banned. However, the rules committee did not receive enough votes for that to happen.

Following the beginning of the 2025 NFL season, it may be easier to ban in 2026. There has been plenty of controversy with the play, and Kansas City Chiefs star defender Chris Jones has spoken out about the play with some strong words.
During the Super Bowl rematch, there were several replays that caught Eagles guards Landon Dickerson and Tyler Steen moving far too early before the ball was snapped during a touchdown on the one-yard line.
Despite the early movement, the Eagles were not flagged. This has led to Jones speaking out about the incident.

"You can't get all the calls right," Jones said in his postgame press conference. "Just because we see it, sometimes the official is 15, 20 feet away and sometimes they can miss those small things. We think he jumped multiple times. The official didn't see it, so it wasn't called. We just got to go play the next down."
Jones is alluding to the fact that the officials did not see one or both Eagles players jumping early to accomplish the tush push. Considering the officials may be at least 20 feet away, their vantage point could be compromised.
It will be interesting to see if the NFL investigates the replays to determine if the Eagles did get away with jumping too early, and what can be done about it moving forward.
Jones isn't the only person who has brought up the tush push play, as former VP of officiating Dean Blandin also commented on the play, saying he is "done" with it, simply because it's hard to officiate.
Jones had plenty to say following the end of the game, including a hot mic picking up an argument between him and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Despite the argument starting with Jones's slighting Hurts for not getting "100 yards," Hurts stated that all that mattered was the win.
Jones did make a solid point at the end that, regardless of the result of the play or lack of penalties called, the Chiefs have to simply push forward.
At 0-2 in the first time of Patrick Mahomes' NFL career, the Chiefs have plenty to do to ensure they can bounce back in Week 3.
