The [Golden State Warriors](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/golden-state-warriors) have been in a holding pattern since the start of the offseason.
Thanks to the ongoing restricted free agency of Jonathan Kuminga, the Warriors have been unable to make any roster moves as they await the situation to resolve itself.
Now, with training camp almost a week away and the regular season just around the corner, it appears we're finally headed towards a resolution, but not a pleasant one.
Jonathan Kuminga, Warriors Headed Towards Qualifying Offer That Would Burn Bridges
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to recent reporting from ESPN's Shams Charania and Anthony Slater, Kuminga is likely to sign his qualifying offer, which essentially shakes out to a one-year deal with a no-trade clause, allowing Kuminga to control his destiny following one last season in Golden State.
"Kuminga's greatest leverage is the one-year, $8 million qualifying offer, attached to an inherent no-trade clause," [wrote](https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/46210422/inside-warriors-stalemate-jonathan-kuminga) Charania and Slater.
"As the summer has dragged on and the discomfort in these negotiations has grown further, Kuminga has warmed further to the idea. The decision to sign it could very well play out up to the Oct. 1 deadline unless either side caves."
Both sides would be risking a lot if Kuminga does sign the qualifying offer, as the former No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft could suffer through an injury-riddled 2025-26 season and receive little to no interest in next Summer's free agency.
Golden State could lose a valuable asset if no long-term agreement is reached, and given the no-trade clause, would be unable to use him as a trade chip as they enter a must-win season with veterans Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler.
A deteriorating relationship signals the end of the Kuminga era in the Bay Area, but it appears he'll be around for at least one more season as the October 1st deadline to sign an extension gets closer and closer.
