Arsenal bounced back to winning ways in the Premier League with a convincing 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, as summer signing Martin Zubimendi stole the headlines with a brace.
The Spanish midfielder, not typically known for his goalscoring, opened his Arsenal account in style. His first strike came in the 32nd minute before Viktor Gyokeres doubled the lead shortly after the restart. Zubimendi then capped off the afternoon with a second goal 11 minutes from time to seal all three points for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Gyokeres, who also found the net for his third goal since joining from Sporting CP, admitted he was taken aback by his teammate’s clinical finishing.

“I haven’t seen him do that in training, to be fair, so it was good that he pulled that one out,” the Swedish striker told TNT Sports. “The header as well, I was a bit surprised with that. But great to see him score two.”

The Gunners’ new-look attack once again impressed, with fellow summer arrivals Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke also catching the eye. “Those two are amazing in their positions,” Gyokeres added. “They always do something special. We definitely saw that today.”

The win keeps Arsenal at the top end of the table, and Gyokeres reflected on his smooth adaptation to life in north London.
“It feels amazing, just a great feeling to score and get the win as well,” he said. “The guys in the team have been amazing. It’s been so easy to get into the group, but of course there is a bit of time where you have to settle in with everything.”
Arsenal now turn their attention to Europe, with a Champions League opener away to Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday evening. And if Zubimendi can continue to surprise even his teammates, the Gunners may have unearthed another vital weapon in their title charge.
