When Topgolf mapped out its next move in Northeast Ohio, it wanted a city on the right course.
Avon was calling.
The Dallas-based company will open its newest venue on Friday, Sept. 19, along I-90 in Avon, adding to a retail and entertainment corridor that has steadily drawn national brands.
The two-level, 64-bay facility marks Topgolf’s fifth in Ohio and third in Northeast Ohio. It joins Independence, which opened in 2019, and the Akron venue near Firestone Country Club, which debuted last November at the former BigShots Golf site.
Topgolf paid $4 million in December for the nearly 13-acre site on Chester Road, which overlooks I-90 between the Ashley furniture store and Planet Fitness.
“Topgolf’s decision to make Avon its newest home underscores the tremendous momentum this community has built,” said James Eppele, president of Jacobs Real Estate Services, in a news release. “With its convenient access to I-90, strong neighborhoods, and growing base of retail, entertainment and dining amenities, Avon is truly one of Northeast Ohio’s most dynamic markets."
Each Topgolf bay is outfitted with lounge-style seating and Toptracer technology, which tracks the flight path and distance of golf balls in real time. Topgolf is designed to appeal to casual players and groups as well as golfers interested in fine-tuning their swing.
The facility also includes a full-service restaurant and bar run by in-house chefs, an outdoor patio, and private event spaces available for corporate outings, family gatherings and community events. The venue will have a 22-foot video wall and more than 100 high-definition televisions.
Golfers who book and complete a one- or two-bay reservation between Sept. 19 and Oct. 3 will be entered into a sweepstakes to win a year of free game play. No purchase is necessary.
“Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or swinging a club for the very first time, there’s something here for everyone – from fun games and shareable bites to a laid-back atmosphere that’s perfect for any group,” Topgolf Chief Operating Officer Erin Chamberlin said.
The company expects to hire about 200 employees — referred to internally as “Playmakers” — to staff the new location. Positions range from bay hosts and bartenders to operations staff.
“We look forward to seeing our community — and our neighbors from surrounding areas — enjoying all that this venue has to offer,” Avon mayor Bryan Jensen said. “Topgolf is a wonderful addition to our growing city, and we’re proud they chose Avon as their new home.”
