Nick Woltemade is pleased to have been on the end of some praise from Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.
Shearer was impressed with Woltemade’s first goal for Newcastle United after the German international scored a fine header on his debut for the club.
It was a fantastic start to his career at Newcastle United. While much has been made about the price the club paid to sign Woltemade, that will quickly be forgotten if he continues to score goals.
Clearly, he’s got a lot yet to prove but the early signs are promising. There’s obviously a talent there and Eddie Howe looks exactly the kind of manager to unlock it, having done it so many times before.
The Newcastle United manager boasts a strong track record in improving players and there would appear to be little reason why he can’t do the same with the German.
Indeed, Newcastle’s club-record signing made a brilliant start to life on Tyneside and was delighted to have caught Shearer’s eye.

Naturally, the 23-year-old was happy to have earned such praise from the club’s greatest of legends.
“Of course he’s the legend,” he said (via The Independent).
“He scored a lot of goals and of course I’m happy about it.”
Nick Woltemade injury update ahead of Newcastle United vs Barcelona
On Thursday, Newcastle return to the Champions League stage when Barcelona come to St James’ Park for a blockbuster fixture.
Woltemade is almost certain to start considering Yoane Wissa’s injury and, hopefully, he can build on his first goal for the club.
Luckily for Howe, Woltemade is likely to be fit for Newcastle against Barcelona despite asking to come off against Wolves after feeling cramps.
“It [the Premier League] was quite hard. I had to go out because I had cramps,” he said.
“But I think for the first game, it’s okay.”
Scoring against Barcelona would likely endear Woltemade to Shearer – and the rest of the Newcastle United fanbase – even further.
