President Donald Trump says a rule change instituted by the NFL for this season has turned the league into “sissy football.”
In a Monday morning post on Truth Social, the president railed against the NFL’s new kickoff rule intended to increase kickoff returns while protecting players.
This year, the ball is placed at the 35-yard line after touchbacks while retaining last year’s dynamic kickoff rules.
“The NFL has to get rid of that ridiculous looking new Kickoff Rule. How can they make such a big and sweeping change so easily and quickly. It’s at least as dangerous as the ‘normal’ kickoff, and looks like hell,” Trump posted to his Truth Social account.
“The ball is moving, and the players are not, the exact opposite of what football is all about. ‘Sissy’ football is bad for America, and bad for the NFL!” said Trump, a football fan who owned the USFL franchise New Jersey Generals in the mid-1980s.
“Who comes up with these ridiculous ideas? It’s like wanting to “roll back” the golf ball so it doesn’t go (nearly!) as far. Fortunately, college football will remain the same, hopefully forever!!" Trump posted.
