Liverpool revive interest in 26-year-old Barcelona star, prepare €50 million bid

Liverpool are preparing a €50 million move for Ronald Araujo, as Barcelona could be tested with a stern offer in January.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool could begin looking at alternative defensive targets ahead of January, as they are now planning a €50 million bid for Ronald Araujo. The Uruguayan is eager to establish himself as a regular performer, something he is currently struggling with at Barcelona, which could pave the way for a departure.

Ronald Araujo came very close to leaving Barcelona in January, as Juventus were the side closing in on his signature. However, the Catalans then offered a long-term deal until 2031, which killed off any speculation surrounding his future there after.

However, as the second half of the season played out, Hansi Flick mostly kept the Uruguayan on the bench, as he preferred Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez. With the latter departing for Al-Nassr during the summer, Araujo was encouraged to play a regular role as he started the first two games, but thereafter, he was relegated to the bench once more.

Hence, the speculation surrounding his future is back in the media, as there are some teams already looking at signing the 26-year-old Barcelona star. A host of Premier League sides are already showing interest, with Liverpool the latest to consider him, while Chelsea also held an interest back in the summer when Levi Colwill suffered a potential season-ending injury.

Tottenham are also in the mix, although it’s the interest from Liverpool that could attract the maximum attention. The Merseysiders had earlier considered him as an alternative to Marc Guehi, and while they are favourites to land the Crystal Palace star, there’s still plenty of danger in losing out on the England international.

Liverpool are readying a €50 million bid for Ronald Araujo

Liverpool have obvious dangers of losing out on Guehi despite coming extremely close to signing the defender. Real Madrid are preparing a lucrative deal to sign the defender on a free transfer, which has forced Liverpool to look at alternatives such as Araujo.

Liverpool are ready to pay €50 million to sign the 26-year-old Barcelona star, and test with waters with an offer in January. The Catalans have some financial troubles that could see them accept such a bid from the Merseysiders, although joining Liverpool may not make the Uruguayan an automatic starter, as Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are still the clear favourites for the backline.
