Jadeveon Clowney shares if he will play for Cowboys in Week 3 against Bears

Former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney signed with the Cowboys over the weekend as Dallas looks for help on its defensive line.

Clowney met with the media on Monday and shared that he expects to play this weekend against the Bears, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

"Jadeveon Clowney said he expects to play Sunday vs. the Bears but does not have a snap count in mind,“ Archer posted on X. ”Excited to join the Cowboys and begin practicing on Wednesday. He’s been working out all summer to be ready.“

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced on Sunday after the win over the Giants that Dallas was signing Jadeveon Clowney to a one-year deal. The contract is worth up to $6 million, according to ESPN.

“He has been an outstanding player, and he’ll add some real depth,” Jerry Jones said, per ESPN. “And he’s very credible and he’ll help us. It’s the kind of thing that we will continue to do. It’s a lot of the reason we handle our roster the way that we have it, so we can do these kinds of things.”

The 32-year-old Clowney was a free agent before signing with Dallas after spending last season with the Carolina Panthers.

Clowney appeared in 14 games with the Panthers last year, recording 5.5 sacks.

He has also previously played for the Texans, Seahawks, Titans, Browns and Ravens.

Jadeveon Clowney was drafted No. 1 overall by the Houston Texans in the 2014 NFL Draft after starring at South Carolina.

He has not lived up to the hype after being drafted as the No. 1 overall pick, but he has been a solid player during his NFL career.

In 11 NFL seasons, Clowney has appeared in 140 games, totaling 58 sacks and 15 forced fumbles.

The best stretch of his career came from 2016-2018 when he was in Houston. He recorded 24.5 combined sacks across the three years and was named to the Pro Bowl all three seasons.

The Cowboys were in need of pass rushing help after trading away former Harrisburg High and Penn State star Micah Parsons just before the start of the NFL season.
