The Detroit Lions are going to have their hands full with the Baltimore Ravens on the road next Monday.
The Ravens (1-1) are coming off a 41-17 victory that looked just as dominant as the Lions’ (1-1) win over the Chicago Bears in Week 2.
But, Baltimore could be without a key piece of their roster against the Lions after former Detroit edge rusher Kyle Van Noy left Sunday’s game early and is dealing with a hamstring injury.
ESPN reported on Monday that the Ravens are bracing for Van Noy to miss multiple games, beginning with the Week 3 matchup against Detroit.
The Ravens have not confirmed anything about Van Noy’s availability.
“Really nothing I can tell you. The update that I probably want to give...just that there’s nothing season ending or long term,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Monday. “Everything else is either day-to-day something might stretch into week-to-week, but there’s really no advantage in us sharing that information today for our opponent. So, probably stay away from it.”
The 12-year NFL veteran is coming off a career year with Baltimore in 2024 where he amassed 12.5 sacks, becoming a top threat on a strong defensive front.
Through the first two games, Van Noy has yet to record a sack and has four total tackles.
Although originally drafted by the Lions in the second round of the 2014 draft, he played just three seasons in Detroit before being traded alongside a seventh-round pick to the New England Patriots for a sixth-round pick.
Van Noy would go on to win two Super Bowls with the Patriots in a three-year stint before stops with the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers then to the Ravens in 2023.
He earned his first Pro Bowl nod last season and has now accumulated 545 tackles and 55 sacks through his career.
In his most recent game against the Lions, Van Noy had five tackles and sacked quarterback Jared Goff twice in a 38-6 win over Detroit in 2023.
Should Van Noy not be available, Harbaugh isn’t concerned about a dropoff in play. In Van Noy’s absence against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, rookie Mike Green stepped in and had a productive game with two tackles and a QB hit.
For now, it may be a waiting game as to whether Van Noy can take the field as Harbaugh isn’t ready to confirm his availability.
“I’m just staying away from it right now because I just don’t want you guys to bleed that information out of me. I’m doing my best here not to -- you’re pulling my fingernails out, you’re trying to get me to share some information that I don’t want to give you,” Harbaugh joked. “It’s not that I don’t want to give it to you or the fans. I just, I don’t want to give it to the Lions. That’s the main thing right now.”
