The San Francisco 49ers saw star quarterback Brock Purdy miss Week 2 action against the New Orleans Saints due to shoulder and toe injuries he is dealing with, but were still able to pull out a win.
Following their win over the Saints, the 49ers now hold a 2-0 record. Despite facing adversity early in the season, the team is showing their determination to get back to winning football games.
After a brutal 2024 season that was dismantled due to injuries, the 2025 campaign has started out the same way. Just how long Purdy could be out remains to be seen, but he could miss multiple more weeks.
Kyle Shanahan spoke out with a new update about Purdy’s status following the win over New Orleans.

Despite a lot of concern that Purdy’s injury could force him out of more games, Shanahan offered a much more positive outlook for the star quarterback.
“I think there’s a chance,” Shanahan said of Purdy playing in Week 3. “But we got to see how the toe goes. It’s very up to debate. So we’re just taking it a day at a time.”

That is the best news that has come out about Purdy all week long. Simply hearing that there is a chance he could come back after missing just one game is a breath of fresh air. It’s possible that he won’t play against the Arizona Cardinals, but there’s a chance.
In Week 1 action, Purdy completed 26 of his 35 passes for 277 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Mac Jones turned in a masterful performance in Week 2 with 279 passing yards, three touchdowns, and no picks.
Even if Purdy is unable to play against the Cardinals, Jones has proven that he can lead the team to wins. There is no reason to rush the franchise quarterback back into action too quickly.
All of that being said, if Purdy is able to play, he gives the 49ers a better chance to win. It will be interesting to see how his injuries progress throughout the week leading up to the matchup against Arizona.
