Head coach Sergej Jakirovic believes Darko Gyabi will prove to be a valuable investment for Hull City after his arrival on deadline day earlier this month from Leeds United.

City were able to prise the 21-year-old midfielder away from Leeds United without paying a transfer fee, though the Whites will significantly benefit from any future sale, having inserted a 50 per cent sell-on fee into the deal.

Gyabi, who is a graduate of Manchester City's academy at the Etihad Stadium and a regular with various England youth teams, signed a three-year deal in East Yorkshire with the option of a fourth and made his debut in the closing stages of the 2-2 draw at Swansea City on Saturday, adding to his 54 appearances in the Championship playing for Plymouth Argyle over two spells.

"He's a very powerful, powerful player," the Croatian told Hull Live. "Born in 2004, but a completely different story from, for example, Joel Ndala, because he has 52 appearances in the Championship.

"This is already an experienced player, a young player. I think it's a very good investment for our club because of the age, because he's now, together with Leeds, I think a 50/50 player, he's a free player.

"We can improve him, he's powerful, good on the ball, good in transitions, good height so he's what we've been looking for until now and I hope he will improve our group a lot, especially in those positions in the midfield zone. We have some options with Amir (Hadziahmetovic as well, so but now I'm sleeping better."
