Liverpool discusses controversial Alexander Isak chat after Newcastle United final

Alexander Isak and Virgil van Dijk irked Newcastle United supporters with a post-match chat after the Carabao Cup final.

Virgil van Dijk has stayed tight-lipped when asked what he said to Alexander Isak following the Carabao Cup final.

Footage emerged of the duo enjoying a post-match exchange moments after Isak fired Newcastle United to glory. At the time, speculation was rife regarding the Swede’s future.

Many have made assumptions given the controversial events that followed. Isak downed tools at St James’ Park all summer to force through a move to Merseyside - ruining his standing with Toon supporters.

The pair certainly seemed close as thousands of Newcastle fans celebrated their victory. Just days later, Isak insisted he remained happy at the club - comments that later proved laughable.

He is yet to kick a ball for the Reds, having been declared unfit by Arne Slot to face Burnley at the weekend. This is largely due to Isak not training or having a pre-season due to his wantaway antics.

Here is the viral clip below - make your mind up as to what was discussed between the two. An innocent greeting… or something more cunning from the Liverpool captain?

A ‘difficult time’ for Liverpool

There will be few Newcastle supporters sympathising with Van Dijk, who admitted the summer-long saga was "difficult" for Liverpool. He added: “I know it was a very difficult time. When negotiations always drag on, it’s never easy. So many things are going on behind the scenes.

“Not only me, but the whole team and everyone connected to the club were very pleased that the deal got done. Now he’s here, he’s a part of the family and it is time for him to be as fit as he can as quickly as possible, and be important for us with goals, with assists, with link-up play, and with what Hugo (Ekitike) has already been showing and doing, pushing each other and bringing us to the next level.”
