Brentford are back in Carabao Cup action on Tuesday night against fellow Premier League side Aston Villa

Brentford drew 2-2 with Chelsea at home in their last Premier League outing. Fabio Carvalho struck a late equaliser for the Bees as they secured a useful point. Kevin Schade also got himself on the scoresheet against Enzo Maresca’s side.

Keith Andrews was appointed as their head coach over the summer and was a surprise pick. He was selected as their replacement for Thomas Frank, who was lured away by Tottenham Hotspur. The Irishman has since done a steady job so far.

Brentford injury news

Brentford are in action on Tuesday night with a Carabao Cup clash against Aston Villa. Brentford midfielder Vitaly Janelt is fit again which is good news. He hasn’t featured since April due to a heel injury.

However, he played for the B team last week and was on the bench against Chelsea. Their upcoming cup tie is a good opportunity for him to get some minutes. It will be a boost to see him back out on the pitch.

Michael Kayode suffered with a bit of illness over the international break but started last time out. Paris Maghoma is still out of action though with a hamstring issue. He has been loaned out in the past to AFC Wimbledon, MK Dons and Bolton Wanderers and is still building up his fitness. Meanwhile, Gustavo Nunes will return to training this week but it remains to be seen whether he will be selected yet.

Mikkel Damsgaard missed out against Chelsea due to illness. He will need to be assessed ahead of their game against Aston Villa. Andrews said over the weekend: “There is illness in the camp. Mikkel isn’t well, and a couple of the coaches as well.”

Aston Villa injury news

Aston Villa welcomed back Matty Cash and Emi Martínez against Everton in their latest league outing. They drew 0-0 against the Toffees at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. New signings Harvey Elliott and Victor Lindelof made their debuts but Jadon Sancho was left on the bench.

Elsewhere, Youri Tielemans is sidelined with a shin injury and is set to miss their tie against Brentford. Andres Garcia, Ross Barkley, Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Onana are in the treatment room still. Emery said late last week: “We have some players injured, they are close to coming back, like Andrés García, (Boubacar) Kamara and Amadou Onana.

“We have not available as well, Ross Barkley. He has a personal issue, and I think he will come back or he will be available soon, but not yet. The other players, they are ready, everybody.”

Speaking after their stalemate against Everton, Emery said: “Firstly, grateful for the supporters, because they were here in the stadium, supporting and helping us. Of course, always, we are so, so grateful. We are feeling stronger with them.

“We needed to compete, we needed to keep a clean sheet and we need as well to continue improving and building the team. After we lost at home 3-0, we didn’t score, but we had chances, but we conceded and we were so, so fragile defensively.”
