In November, A Bola reported Aston Villa were preparing to make an offer for Sporting’s Pedro Gonçalves but dropped their interest after he suffered an injury later that month.
Back in May, we covered claims from Portugal that Aston Villa have rekindled their interest in the 27-year-old.
Although the Premier League club had him on their radar in the summer window, they never made the decisive push to sign him and Pedro Gonçalves is still at Sporting.
Fast forward to September and Monday’s edition of A Bola reports of Aston Villa’s interest and the Lions’ immediate plan for the winger.
He managed six goals and six assists from 20 games last season and has four goals and three assists from five league games this season. The Portugal international’s contract lasts until 2027 and reportedly includes an €80m release clause.
The newspaper report the Primeira Liga winners have made a renewal offer until 2030 with an improved salary but with the same release clause, and his response was positive.
It’s claimed the parties are sorting out the details of the new contract and Sporting should make his extension official in the next few days.
Bayer Leverkusen had looked at the player in the past and even made a €30m, which was rejected by the Lions, and the report state they could return from him next year.
Aston Villa’s interest also gets mentioned as they have been following him for a long time, and A Bola report Unai Emery’s side would like to bring him to the Premier League.
The Villans and any other club’s task to sign Pedro Gonçalves will become complicated if and when he signs an extension with Sporting.
