I started doing this now-regular post-summer-transfer piece back at the beginning of the 2022-23 season and it was for two closely connected reasons.
It was a season where it soon became obvious that we were ‘clearing the decks’ more than ever before; both with regards to permanent and loan transfers.
We actually moved out a whopping 35 players in total by September of 2022!
It was quite timely that I began doing this monitoring of both incoming and outgoing players as there appeared to be even more scrutiny than usual at the time about our spending; as questions intensified from all quarters ( nosey feckers! ) regarding our finances.
So, here are this summer’s figures…for City fans and nosey feckers alike:

Thoughts on our mainly first-team-bound, incoming players?
I can’t wait to see Rayan Cherki in full-attacking flow. I did read somewhere before we signed the French international attacker that he can take a little time to adjust to new systems / ways of playing but once he does, he’s an explosive player to watch and enjoy. A little moody looking and there were reports ‘out there’ that he can have a little bit of an attitude. However, I’ve also read that he’s a hardworking, determined character, so I’m taking that stern-faced look as a positive thing rather than a troublesome, Joao Cancelo-type ‘slapped arse’ issue.
Tijjani Reinders looks class; perhaps a little lightweight-looking for a central midfielder in the Premier League but I can see him contributing a lot of goals and assists in a Manchester City shirt. He could be our new Kev for years to come.
WOW Gigi Donnarumma looks a quality, world class keeper and added to James Trafford; we have two top-quality stoppers for sure. I feel sorry for James and I hope he gets as many minutes as possible in both domestic cups, at least – he was my MotM against Brighton.
I heard a lot of praise being given with regards to Sverri Nypan as the transfer was going through and in his last two match reports for Middlesbrough, where he came on as a second half substitute, he got 7/10 from the same publication and was praised not only for his creativity and involvement in attacks but also his battling qualities in midfield. High praise indeed for an 18-year-old who has never played in England; starting life in the Championship.
So, there you have it…Manchester City ruining football once again with top-quality signings costing no more than £46.3M for a single player (have a look at the prices some of our rival clubs have spent 😲😂); with just 10 permanent players coming in, including youth, and 14 departing for good.
Thank you, as always, for taking the time to read.
