Former Dunfermline winger makes dream Arsenal move

Archie Stevens, who spent a short period at KDM Group East End Park last season , has put pen to paper on a professional deal with Arsenal's academy.

The 19-year-old impressed during a trial period with the Gunners' under-21s, who he will now turn out for in the season ahead.

A member of England's under-17 World Cup squad in 2023, Stevens arrived at the Pars in the January transfer window on a temporary deal until the end of last term from Rangers.

Stevens, who also won international caps at under-18 level, arrived at Ibrox in 2022 from Wimbledon, and last year, was reportedly the subject of interest from Brighton and Hove Albion.

He made his Dunfermline debut in a Fife derby win at home to Raith Rovers, under the charge of then boss, Michael Tidser, and started seven more matches under him.

Those included Tidser's last, a 2-0 defeat away to Raith in March, and Stevens made three more appearances under his successor, Neil Lennon, all as a substitute.

The winger's contract with Rangers expired in the summer and, with no new deal agreed, he left Glasgow and spent time on trial with the North London side.

He played in games for the under-21s against Chelmsford City and Monaco II, scoring in the latter, which helped seal a move to the Gunners' academy.

Speaking to Arsenal's website , Stevens said: "I went on loan to Dunfermline towards the end of the season and learnt loads there.

"We were in a relegation scrap at the start, so that taught me a lot, and we managed to stay up.

"Michael Tidser was the first manager, and then Neil Lennon came in, so it was two big names that I learnt off, so I learnt loads from them as well.

Dunfermline Press:

"Obviously, you learn loads of different things on loan. You learn those different experiences and stuff, so I've seen a lot of things on and off the pitch, which really, really helped your mindset and mentality.

"Bringing men's football into youth football as well can help a lot."

Former Gunners centre back Per Mertesacker, who also won the 2014 World Cup with Germany, is Arsenal's academy manager, and said: “Since Archie has been with us, he has really impressed as a person and player.

"He has fitted into our environment seamlessly and has been really impressive in matches and in training. Archie has absolutely earned this next stage in his career with his professional contract with us.

“We welcome Archie to our Academy and are all looking forward to working with him in his continued development.”
