Man United winger plots escape route with UAE Pro League offer after transfer collapse

Manchester United could soon wave goodbye to one of their academy forwards, with a permanent departure looming.

According to the Manchester Evening News, academy forward Sam Mather is considering an offer from a UAE Pro League club.

The 20-year-old is weighing up the offer from the Middle East after narrowly missing out on a switch to Turkish outfit Kayserispor earlier this summer.

Mather reportedly verbally agreed personal terms with the Super Lig side.

United also agreed to a transfer fee, with the deal including a buyback clause.

However, they decided against giving the final sign-off after feeling that they did not have enough time to complete the transfer.

Sealing a permanent transfer earlier this summer was considered highly possible after he caught the eye of suitors in Germany, Sweden, and Turkey.

Yet his move collapsed at the eleventh hour, leaving him heartbroken on deadline day.

Mather is too good for academy football. He has made over 60 appearances, netting 29 goals and registering 22 assists.

He also had loan stints at Rochdale and Tranmere, but a lack of regular minutes meant neither spell truly showcased his potential.

The Red Devils were able to swiftly send several academy stars on loan this summer but failed to find a solution for Mather.

A switch to the UAE Pro League could finally provide him with the platform he needs, including the chance to play in the AFC Champions League.

The tournament is Asia’s equivalent of the Champions League and will help him compete against the likes of Saudi heavyweights against the likes of Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad Club.

Mather wants a fresh start to his senior career and United are not likely to stand in his way.
