Everyone at the Etihad Stadium is on a high after Pep Guardiola’s men demolished Man United 3-0 on Sunday, with several players impressing during the Manchester derby.
Haaland was the star of the show against United; however, players such as Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku, and Gianluigi Donnarumma also stepped up on the day.
Following the Manchester derby, David Ornstein has revealed that Man City want to keep one of their stars for as long as possible, as the Premier League giants view the player as a crucial part of their future.

Man City want to keep Erling Haaland for many more years
Haaland’s brace against Man United helped the Norwegian superstar continue his impressive start to the 2025/26 campaign, with the two goals making it five in four games for the 25-year-old.
While speaking about the striker’s impressive display against Man United, Ornstein has been praising the Man City star and has revealed that the Manchester club plan to keep their star man for as long as possible.

“We’re talking about one of the greatest goal scorers ever. And that might, of course, still prove to be the case. In the interim period, he signed a new contract, so he’s at City to stay. They’re not stupid. They want him for as long as possible. And he’s not perfect,” Ornstein said on The Athletic FC Podcast.
“He’s going to be working on elements of his game to try and get even better. But when he’s fit, basically, he is going to be more than a handful for any opposition, let alone one that is struggling.”
Haaland signed a new Man City contract at the start of the year, which keeps the striker at the Etihad Stadium until 2034.
This was huge news for the Premier League giants, who will have a player Troy Deeney recently described as “remarkable” for the rest of his prime years.
It is not a surprise that Man City want to keep Haaland for many more years, but whether they can remains to be seen.
Real Madrid is still a possibility for Erling Haaland
It has long been believed that Haaland has the ambition to play in all of Europe’s big five leagues, and after dominating the Premier League for the last three seasons, La Liga is likely next.
Real Madrid have been linked to Haaland for many years, and many believe the Norwegian would be open to playing for the Spanish giants one day. While Barcelona could also be an option further down the line, should the Catalan club sort out their financial issues.
If the striker is to leave Man City in the future, one of these clubs will very likely be his next destination. Real Madrid is the more likely, as Los Blancos have not lost interest in Haaland, and have the financial power to sign the 25-year-old should any of their superstar forwards depart the Bernabeu.
