Manchester City barman fired for wearing United shirt at derby

A picture of the barman went viral on social media after a fan complained he was wearing a Manchester United shirt while working at the Etihad Stadium.

A bar man working at Manchester City's stadium has been sacked from his role - after he wore a United shirt during the derby match.

The worker came to the attention of the club after a disgruntled fan posted a picture of the barman wearing a Manchester United shirt while serving pints to City fans at the Etihad Stadium on social media.

The post read: "Absolute joke @ManCity - letting one of the bar staff in block 315 wear a United shirt on Derby Day.”

The Manchester derby took place on Sunday 14 September, with Pep Guardiola's side coming out with a 3-0 win.

The post on X, which went viral, saw many fans sharing their opinions, with one saying: “How did he get there in the first place!!”, while another said: "Genuine question.....what's he thinking?"

In response, the Manchester City Fan Support page replied: “Thank you for making us aware of this. We can confirm that this individual has now been removed from their position.”

However the decision has split fans, with some questioning whether the removal of the staff member was a step too far, with many speculating it could have been a dare or just some derby day banter.

One fan wrote “A sacking is over the top but it's a little silly from the bloke. People wouldn't like it if it was a Blues fan at Villa Park etc".

Another replied: "What a joke. Just speak to him and tell him he can’t be at it again. Sacking someone over a football shirt is ridiculous".
