West Ham again conceded from a corner in their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.

The Hammers did well in the first half to restrict Spurs to just 0.03 expected goals from open play, but problems with set pieces emerged when Cristian Romero’s Tottenham goal from a corner was ruled out.

Graham Potter’s side eventually gave in, with Pape Matar Sarr unmarked at the back post and heading home their opener from a corner.

Tomas Soucek’s red card didn’t help West Ham as they went on to concede a further two goals, but the Czech Republic international can’t be blamed for set-piece defending failures.

West Ham have conceded four more than any other team from corners

The Hammers have currently conceded the most goals in the Premier League with eleven.

Failures across the pitch have meant that Potter’s job at West Ham is at risk, and he will need to turn their form around in their next three fixtures.

The Irons have some tough games ahead, with Crystal Palace, Everton, and Arsenal on the schedule.

With Palace playing Millwall in the Carabao Cup on 16 September, Potter has more time than his opponents to try and sort their dismal record from set pieces.

Who is West Ham’s set-piece coach Narcis Pelach?

David Sullivan has come under fire from West Ham fans for his failures in recent seasons.

The Welsh businessman made another mistake in January by bringing in Narcis Pelach as the Hammers’ set-piece coach.

The Spaniard had brief spells as interim manager for Huddersfield before moving to Stoke in 2024, with big expectations.

He then guided them from fifth into the relegation zone and was sacked after a disastrous few months in charge.

Pelach was known for his intricate possession-based style of football, which didn’t pay off in the Championship.

However, the coach’s creativity means it isn’t a surprise that Potter elected to bring him in, but to use him as a set-piece coach is bizarre.
