Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams recorded the fourth 100-yard game of his career on Sunday, and he needed only two receptions to get there in a 52-21 victory over the Chicago Bears.
The former Alabama All-American recorded the 127th game in which an NFL player reached 100 receiving yards with no more than two receptions.
The first NFL player to do that also was a former Crimson Tide star. On Oct. 22, 1939, Green Bay Packers end Don Hutson scored on receptions of 60 and 51 yards in a 26-7 victory over Detroit.
On Sunday, Williams had both his receptions in the third quarter.
On the Lions’ first offensive snap of the second half, Williams caught a deep pass from quarterback Jared Goff and motored to the Chicago 12-yard line for a 64-yard gain.
“I feel like I should have scored,” Williams said. “I’m mad at myself about that one. It was just something, you know, get us going coming out of halftime, and I just got to score that one.”
On Detroit’s next possession, Williams caught another deep pass from Goff, and this time made it all the way to the end zone for a 44-yard touchdown as the Lions took a 38-14 lead with 6:22 left in the third quarter.
“It felt good,” Williams said. “We kind of figured out what defense they was playing, and we knew what we was going to get with the motion. We seen the safeties low, so we go over the top of that, and that’s what I do.”

The Lions’ runaway win on Sunday followed a season-opening 27-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 7. Jameson had four receptions for 23 yards in the loss.
“It was great,” Williams said of the bounce-back victory. “You know, that was our plans -- come out, play good Detroit Lion football and get a win. …
“You know, 50 points, we can never be mad about 50 points in a win. You never could be mad about a win either. But 50 points, I think we did great on the offense, and still some things to clean up. And, you know, once we get those clean, we going to be rolling.”

Against the Bears, Detroit and Williams faced Ben Johnson. Now the coach of Chicago, Johnson had worked as the Lions’ offensive coordinator for the previous three seasons.
Concerns about a drop-off in the offensive production that helped Detroit post a 15-2 regular-season record in 2024 came to the forefront in the loss to the Packers. But new offensive coordinator John Morton presided over the sixth 50-point game in franchise history on Sunday.
“This our OC’s second game; we put up 50,” Williams said. “So I don’t think it’s not really a drop-off without Ben. Shout out to Ben. He’s a great coach, great play-caller. … I really didn’t see a difference or a drop-off with the different coaches. But, you know, Johnny Mo got out there and called a great game for us this week when we scored 50 points.”
The Lions step into the prime-time spotlight in Week 3 of the NFL’s 2025 season when they play the Baltimore Ravens at 7:15 p.m. CDT Monday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. ABC and ESPN will televise the game.
