Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to extend William Saliba’s contract and have recently offered an improved deal for the defender, GIVEMESPORT senior journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
The North London side are in continuous talks to prolong the France international’s stay at the Emirates for the foreseeable future and secure his services amid speculation over interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Romano claims Arsenal are in talks to extend both Saliba and Bukayo Saka at the moment, with conversations ‘very positive’ regarding a new contract for the England international.
Saliba, who joined Arsenal from French side Saint-Etienne in 2019, is under contract until June 2027, earning a reported base salary of £190,000 per week.

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, revealed that Arsenal want Saliba to feel like a crucial part of their ambitious project and are prepared to reflect that in ongoing contract talks:
“I think the main focus would be Saliba, because for Saka, for sure, the conversation is already very positive. I think Arsenal will not have big problems extending this contract.
“For William Saliba, obviously, there is this constant speculation about Real Madrid. Well, what I'm told is that Arsenal have recently improved, it’s not today or yesterday, but let's say, in recent weeks, their proposal to William Saliba.
“So Arsenal made an important proposal to the player. Arsenal want to extend his contact. Arsenal want Saliba to feel as a crucial part of a big project, of an ambitious project, where they are doing something really special at the club.
“And so this is what Arsenal are trying to do with William Saliba.”
Saliba has been one of the Premier League’s best defenders in recent seasons and was key to Arsenal mounting three consecutive title challenges, helping the Gunners finish second in the table from 2023 to 2025.
The France international has amassed 135 appearances for the North London side to date, scoring seven goals, and was included in the PFA Team of the Year for the last three seasons.
Saliba was not involved in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, having suffered an ankle injury before the international break.
The Frenchman trained with the squad on Monday and could make his return this week, potentially in time for the club’s Champions League opener on Tuesday away at Athletic Bilbao.
