Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is under increasing pressure after their defeat to Manchester City in the Manchester derby.
Several pundits, including Wayne Rooney, Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand, have been critical of Amorim’s stubbornness not to change his system despite the current results, building even more pressure on the United boss.
It doesn’t get any easier for Amorim either, as his side will face Chelsea in their next game. If they fail to get a result in that one, the higher-ups at United may be closer to having to decide on the manager’s future at Old Trafford.
Paul Parker says Amorim sacking is “getting closer”
Amid the current turmoil at United, Amorim’s side are returning worse results than Erik Ten Hag, who was sacked last Autumn in favour of Amorim’s appointment. The form poses a serious risk to Amorim, and former United defender Paul Parker believes that it may not be long until he faces the sack.
Parker told ManchesterWorld exclusively: “You look at the number of games that Amorim’s won, that Manchester United have won, and you look at how people who still stand with him, I think that's diminishing by the day. If things weren't going right, but they were winning games, you could get away with it. They're not winning games, and things aren't going right.
“I think everyone is beyond this idea of playing three at the back because the players that he's got - the main function of it starts in the back - it's not working. I have to say that I think it's getting closer by the day that Amorim goes.”
Parker questions Amorim’s Mainoo selection choice
During the Manchester derby, Amorim decided to start the game with Manuel Ugarte alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield, however, Parker believes that the United boss should have picked Kobbie Mainoo.
He said: “Seeing the way that when Mainoo came on, even he made a difference. Why isn't he [Amorim] playing a local boy in a Manchester derby, someone who actually has lived and breathed it all his life, who walks down the street when it's been good, bad and indifferent as a kid?
“I think to myself, no -there's something wrong there. There's something personally wrong with that situation, that Mainoo is not playing in front of Ugarte.”
Mainoo asked to leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window on loan in order to get more game time; however, the Red Devils wanted to keep hold of him. Despite that, Amorim is yet to start the 20-year-old in the Premier League this season, even though he’s shown flashes of brilliance in a United shirt in the past.
