Man Utd fans scared '007' Sesko is another expensive flop

Benjamin Sesko has now gone seven games without scoring at the start of the season.

There were big hopes for the Slovenian when Man Utd splashed out as much as €85 million to sign the striker from RB Leipzig.

United had been in the market for a long time for a top-class number nine and believed they had finally captured a star for the present and future.

However, based on his start to life at Old Trafford, there are already concerns over whether Sesko could turn out to be the latest Manchester United transfer disappointment.

Sesko poor start to season

Sesko has played five games for Man Utd in 2025-26 and two matches for Slovenia, and has failed to score a single goal.

This has earned him the unfortunate nickname on social media of '007'.

His performance in the EFL Cup defeat to fourth division Grimsby was particularly worrying.

Sesko played the entire game and was dominated by defenders from the bottom tier of English football.

He also was extremely poor in the 3-0 defeat to Man City on Sunday when it was demonstrated the huge gulf between him and opposite number nine Erling Haaland, who scored twice.

Sesko did manage an assist for Slovenia in their 2-2 World Cup qualifying draw against Sweden a fortnight ago but that is his only goal contribution of any kind this season.

It is still early days and too soon to write Sesko off but given the sheer number of expensive and big name stars who have flopped at Man Utd in recent years, it is no surprise that fans are already starting to worry.

Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana and Antony are just three big-money flops who were offloaded this summer after failing to make the grade at Old Trafford.

Will Sesko be next?
