'No doubts': Darren Bent has now tipped Erling Haaland to achieve what Sergio Aguero failed to…

Erling Haaland has been tipped to do something Sergio Aguero and many other strikers have failed to do in recent years.

The Norwegian superstar looks back to his best this season after not reaching the heights he was capable of last time around, with Haaland stealing the show in the Manchester derby on Sunday by scoring a brace.

That made it five goals in four games for the 25-year-old so far this season, and if Pep Guardiola’s men are to win the Premier League, they will need the striker to continue in this vein of form.

Darren Bent has now made a big statement related to Haaland, with the pundit predicting the Man City star to break a record many other strikers in the Premier League have failed to do.

Erling Haaland tipped to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League record

Alan Shearer sits at the top of the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer chart with 260 goals, with several strikers failing to break the former Newcastle star’s record in recent years.

Harry Kane has come closest with 213 goals before the Englishman moved to the Bundesliga, while Sergio Aguero gave it a good attempt in a Man City shirt during his time in the Premier League, with the Argentine star netting 184 times in England’s top flight.

Bent has tipped Haaland to break this record should he stay at Man City, as the Norwegian star is already on 90 goals and there are many more to come.

“If he stays at City, if he stays at City his whole career, he beats Shearer. I’ve got no doubts about that,” Bent said on talkSPORT.

Haaland recently signed a new contract at Man City, which keeps him in Manchester until 2034 and with the 25-year-old scoring a minimum of 20 goals a season in the Premier League, it will not be long before the striker surpasses Shearer’s record.

The only thing that will stop it is if the forward leaves City, with Real Madrid one club Haaland has been linked to in the past.

How long will it take Erling Haaland to break Alan Shearer’s record

Haaland is currently 170 goals away from Shearer at the top of the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer chart, and the Norwegian will be confident of catching the Englishman, should he opt to remain at the Etihad Stadium.

If the 25-year-old averages 22 goals a season from here on out, it will take the superstar roughly eight campaigns to surpass the Newcastle legend.

It may take Haaland longer, depending on injuries, or even shorter if the striker increases his output at the Manchester club.

Many have failed before Haaland in breaking Shearer’s record, but if anyone can do it, it looks like it will be the Man City superstar.
