Newcastle are keeping tabs on wantaway Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo ahead of the January transfer window.
England international Mainoo was desperate to leave Old Trafford in the lead up to transfer deadline day after falling out of favour with manager Ruben Amorim.

United blocked all approaches for their academy graduate, but he once again found himself on the bench for Sunday’s 3-0 Manchester Derby defeat.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is known to be an admirer of Mainoo and would consider testing United’s resolve if the 21-year-old continues to find himself out in the cold.
talkSPORT has been told even Mainoo’s teammates are perplexed by Amorim’s lack of faith in the player who scored the winner for Man United in the 2024 FA Cup final, and also started for England in that summer’s European championship final in Berlin.
The midfielder has played in three of United's five games in all competitions this season, but has been picked for the starting line-up just once - in the EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

Wolfpack unite around Pereira
Wolves are keen to tie manager Vitor Pereira down to a new contract despite their poor start to the season.
Pereira’s current deal expires next summer, although given he is a client of super-agent Jorge Mendes, who has a big influence in the boardroom at Molineux, negotiations are expected to be relatively straightforward.
Pereira endeared himself to Wolves fans by stepping in to replace Gary O’Neil mid-way through last season and ultimately saving them from relegation to the Championship.
Wolves have failed to take a single point from any of their first four games this term, but the Pereira has plenty of credit in the bank with the club’s hierarchy.
There is also an acknowledgement that this was destined to be a tough campaign after selling star duo Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri and losing Nelson Semedo on a free transfer.
