The Detroit Lions delivered a dominant 52-21 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, with new offensive coordinator John Morton orchestrating a record-breaking performance against his predecessor.
Ben Johnson, now calling plays for Chicago, watched helplessly as his former unit dismantled his current team in this NFC North showdown at Ford Field.
Morton’s tactical changes turned out to be game-changing, ultimately setting a new franchise record.
“The Lions set a new franchise record on Sunday against the Bears, averaging 8.8 yards per play on offense,” WXYZ 7 News Detroit’s Brad Galli posted on X.

The Lions wasted no time establishing dominance, scoring on their opening drive in just five plays.
Jared Goff connected with Amon-Ra St. Brown for 34 yards on the first snap, setting the tone immediately.
Jahmyr Gibbs capped the drive with a six-yard rushing touchdown after contributing 12 yards on the ground.
Chicago responded quickly with an eight-play, 74-yard drive.
Caleb Williams found Rome Odunze for 28 yards, tying the game 7-7 early.
However, Detroit seized control from that point forward.
Morton’s offense exploded for six scoring drives starting before the five-minute mark of the second quarter.
Goff threw five touchdowns during that dominant stretch, including a spectacular 44-yard bomb to Jameson Williams.
St. Brown added entertainment value by pretending to fake an injury, while Detroit even recreated their memorable “stumble bum” play from last season’s matchup with Chicago.
The Lions accumulated 511 total yards, completely overwhelming Johnson’s defensive schemes and showcasing Morton’s immediate impact in his new role.
