Opta Analyst’s Supercomputer has predicted how the Champions League table will look after the ‘league phase’ of the competition.
It is Arsenal’s second season in the Champions League with the new format, after their first one was very much a success. They finished third in the ‘league phase’ behind just Barcelona and Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta’s side went on to the semi-final stages, managing to beat Real Madrid in the quarter-finals. However, they fell to eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final stage.
Their campaign begins on Tuesday night in the Basque region of Spain as they face an away match against Athletic Bilbao, hoping to continues their good form after a 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest over the weekend.
Opta Supercomputer predicts success for Premier League teams
There are six Premier League teams in the Champions League this season, namely Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea. All six are more than capable of going deep into the competition, but who are the real favourites.
Opta Analyst’s Supercomputer ran a fresh simulation of the Champions league table, and it believes that all six will finish within the top 12 of the ‘league phase’ including three teams in the top three.

3. Man City – 15.15 expected points
4. Barcelona – 14.87 expected points
5. PSG – 14.58 expected points
6. Chelsea – 14.55 expected points
7. Real Madrid – 14.31 expected points
8. Bayern Munich – 13.27 expected points
9. Inter – 12.82 expected points
10. Tottenham – 12.79 expected points
11. Napoli – 12.54 expected points
12. Newcastle – 12.50 expected points
How does the simulation think Arsenal will do in the Champions League?
According to the simulation, Arsenal will finish second in the ‘league phase’, one spot ahead of where they finished last season. Therefore, it predicts that Arsenal have a 76.10% chance of reaching the Round 16 of stage.
It said that the Gunners have a 67.55% chance of making the quarter-finals, 44.98% chance of making the semi-finals, 27.59% chance of getting to the final and a 15.33% chance of winning their first ever Champions League title.
These are very encouraging numbers for the Gunners, who are hoping to at least go one better than last year and reach the Champions League final in Budapest at the Puskas Arena.
