Alan Shearer Claims Liverpool’s Title Rivals Should Be“Really”Concerned After What They’ve Just Done

BBC pundit Alan Shearer believes Liverpool’s ability to win games without playing well should “really” worry other teams competing for the Premier League title.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer said the prospect of Alexander Isak being added to the mix means the Reds should get better and better over the coming weeks and months:

“I would be extremely happy if I were them; they’ve not played well at all, yet they’ve won four games out of four. They’ve [also] got a £125million centre-forward to come in as well…”

“I would be really happy with that [four wins out of four], you’d have to be, wouldn’t you? For the other teams, it has to be really worrying that they’ve been nowhere near their best, but they’ve won four out of four, they’ve found a way!”

Shearer is repeating an old cliche

While Liverpool supporters will be delighted that their team has won 4 out of 4 at the start of the season, they will be aware that the team must improve if they are to retain their Premier League crown.

Shearer is simply stating what others have said, that winning when not playing well is a sign of champions. That statement only holds true if Arne Slot’s side continue to win games, and they can maintain their lead over the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City in the table.

When will Isak make his debut for Liverpool?

The Swedish international has not had a proper pre-season, so Slot decided not to select him in the matchday squad for the victory against Burnley.

However, there is an expectation that Isak will make the substitutes bench for the first Champions League fixture against Atletico Madrid. He could potentially play the last 20 minutes on Wednesday evening.
