Chelsea unsung hero is the highest rated player in his position in the Premier League this season

The spotlight at Chelsea is usually focused on the brilliance of players such as Cole Palmer or Moises Caicedo. However, Trevoh Chalobah has definitely emerged as the unsung hero at Stamford Bridge.

Trevoh Chalobah, who’s a product of the Chelsea academy, is the perfect example of a player eventually being rewarded for their hard work and professionalism.

At the start of the 2024/25 campaign, Chalobah was loaned out to Crystal Palace because he didn’t feature in Enzo Maresca’s plans. The 26-year-old defender didn’t kick up a fuss when he was recalled midway through last season. In fact, he would go on and play an important role for the Blues to help them clinch fourth in the Premier League and to win two trophies.

It is a huge turnaround that Chelsea now consider Chalobah not for sale because he’s an important part of their squad.

Trevoh Chalobah is the highest rated centre-back so far in the Premier League

After the opening four gameweeks of the Premier League, Chelsea’s Chalobah ranks as the highest rated central defender across England’s top division via WhoScored.

It is quite some feat that Chalobah is the in-form player in his position for the entire Premier League, especially when you consider the calibre of centre-halves in the league. It feels like the Englishman has quietly gone about his business and been outstanding.

He’s started all four of Chelsea’s matches in the heart of defence, helping to keep two clean sheets.

At the moment, Chalobah belongs in Chelsea’s strongest starting XI because his form dictates it. While he’s consistent with the ball at his feet, it’s his defensive contributions and reading of the game that are standing out in a positive way.

Frank Leboeuf has been impressed by Chalobah ever since he returned to Chelsea at the start of 2025. The great news is that he’s carried last season’s form into this term, where he’s arguably looking even more composed and consistent.

Unsurprisingly, Blues midfielder Moises Caicedo, 23, is rated as one of the division’s top performers. He’s picked up where he left off last season with more dominant displays in the centre of the park.

Chelsea want to reward Caicedo with a contract extension because of his importance at the club, both on and off the pitch.
