Premier League Power Rankings after Matchday 4

Another Premier League matchweek is in the books as Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham put up impressive 3-0 victories, Liverpool and Newcastle ground out tough 1-0 ones, and Chelsea dropped valuable points.

Here are the power rankings after Matchday 4.

### 20\. Wolves

Wolves cut it close against Newcastle, only losing by a goal, but that’s hardly any real consolation. They are easily the worst team in the Premier League right now, and it’s going to be a long season for a team that has not come anywhere near replacing the star power left by Matheus Cunha.

### 19\. West Ham

Annihilated by rivals Tottenham, really nobody is surprised by the futility the Hammers have displayed, and it feels like only a matter of time before they burn through another notable Premier League manager and then revert back to a relegation specialist to bail them out. Jarrod Bowen deserves better.

### 18\. Burnley

Full credit to Burnley for nearly nicking a point off Liverpool, but with an xG hovering near zero to Liverpool’s of close to three, it would have been a totally fluky draw for a team that, like Wolves, seriously lacks the star power to stay afloat in the Premier League.

### 17\. Leeds

Leeds haven’t won any games, but they’ve largely avoided embarrassment and managed to scoop up a 0-0 draw with Newcastle two weeks ago. That’s just good enough to stay above the pack.

### 16\. Brentford

Thanks to a late goal from Fabio Carvalho, Brentford managed to steal a point off Chelsea, and they’ve actually enjoyed a good start to the season, with new striker Igor Thiago exceeding expectations and forming an underrated partnership with Mikel Damsgaard. But do Brentford really have enough talent to compete after losing so much this summer?

### 15\. Manchester United

Manchester United are in a tailspin as soon as the season got off to a start, and even their lone win of the season over Burnley was hardly anything to write home about. I mean, that’s the bare minimum of what you’d expect from United.

Then again, reaching the bare minimum hasn’t exactly been a thing for this team, as they were knocked out by Grimsby Town in the League Cup and just suffered another humiliation to Manchester City. Ruben Amorim has to change or die. It’s that simple. His ideas aren’t working and will never work in the Premier League.

### 14\. Aston Villa

Honestly, Aston Villa have been even worse than Manchester United and are bured in the relegation zone, and they’ve been pretty disastrous since late last season. It’s almost as if Unai Emery has been tuned out completely, and for as impressive as the start to his reign was, it has quietly been abysmal now.

Aston Villa did absolutely nothing to support Emery this summer transfer window, and if Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers don’t collectively play the best seasons of their careers, European football is going to be a tough sell.

### 13\. Nottingham Forest

Last season’s brilliance feels like a mere myth. Arsenal are tough opponents, yes, but Nottingham Forest posed no threat to the Gunners. After holding Morgan Gibbs-White hostage, Forest look like a listless, disjointed team, and the summer transfers aren’t really geling either. Is Ange Postecoglou, who finished 17th with Tottenham, really the answer?

### 12\. Fulham

Fulham are the defintion of an average team. Most of their starting lineup is decent and inoffensive, but when your biggest name is Bernd Leno in goal, your ceiling is automatically capped.

### 11\. Brighton

Brighton took three points from Manchester City and have a squad loaded with young talents, but they are very hard to trust with how inconsistent they are week to week. And based on what we have seen from this slow start to the 2025/26 season, these young talents have even more room to develop than we thought.

### 10\. Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace haven’t lost yet, and the trio of Marc Guehi, Maxence Lacroix, and Daniel Munoz has been arguably the best defensive triumvirate in the Premier League to start the season. But then that raises the question, what is up with the attack?

After losing Eberechi Eze a year after Michael Olise bolted to Bayern Munich, Palace’s only proven attacking commodity is journeyman Jean-Philippe Mateta, whose overperformance is already crashing down without Eze supplying him.

### 9\. Sunderland

Sunderland had one of the busiest summer transfer windows of any Premier League team, and it is serving them well so far. Forget the relegation fight; Sunderland could be European sleepers this season with Nordi Mukiele, Granit Xhaka, and Omar Alderete already steadying the team wonderfully.

### 8\. Everton

Everton could not score a single goal against Aston Villa in what amounted to a disappointing afternoon at Goodison Park, but that blip on the radar can easily be overcome with more electricity from Jack Grealish. The question is, can Beto and Thierno Barry rise to the occasion to finish the inevitable sea of chances?

### 7\. Newcastle

Newcastle were far from impressive in grinding out a tough 1-0 win over Wolves, but Nick Woltemade being the decisive player in the match bodes well for their future without Alexander Isak. With a focus on defensive grit and a reenergized Sandro Tonali in midfield, the Magpies will be back in close top five contention.

### 6\. Bournemouth

The welcome wagon has to be rolled out for Bournemouth this season, as Andoni Iraola’s stunning counterattacking machine left Thomas Frank and Tottenham grasping at straws two weeks ago before similarly outplaying Brighton this past weekend.

Bournemouth have one of the most underrated squads in European football right now, and new additions like Adrien Truffert have combined very well with talents taking a huge leap forward in 2025/26, specifically standout striker Evanilson.

### 5\. Tottenham

Tottenham bounced back from their Bournemouth debacle with a Mohammed Kudus-inspired trouncing of West Ham. When you watch how brilliant their center back duo is, you really have to say that Spurs are darkhorse title contenders if they can just find one breakout goal-scorer out of their handful of gambles.

### 4\. Manchester City

Manchester City aren’t leaping into top contendership based on a 3-0 win over lowly Manchester United, but watching a rejuvenated Phil Foden connecting with Jeremy Doku and Erling Haaland up top was massive.

Nobody is questioning the high-end talent City have with players like Foden, Haaland, Rodri, Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias, and Gianluigi Donnarumma. But how will the aging midfield and defensive depth hold up in 2025/26 compared to the other main title contenders?

### 3\. Chelsea

Chelsea blew it against Brentford, but they were mostly playing backups. Now, that raises concerns about said backups and a defense that is still filled with question marks despite Trevoh Chalobah’s impressive overperformance, but there are a handful of Blues players – Cole Palmer, Marc Cucurella, Joao Pedro, Moises Caicedo, and Estevao Willian – who are producing as well as anyone in the entire Premier League.

### 2\. Arsenal

Arsenal rampaged through Nottingham Forest like they were nothing, and if they can play this well without Martin Odegaard at his best and Bukayo Saka out injured, then imagine what they can do when they are truly at their top level.

Viktor Gyokeres is the answer at the No. 9, Noni Madueke looked like a superstar against the tough Forest defense, and, speaking of defenses, Arsenal’s is even better than ever before.

### 1\. Liverpool

[Liverpool](https://walkon.com/) did what champions do and ground out a tough win over Brentford, as they have done all season long. Once Alexander Isak gets integrated into the starting lineup and Florian Wirtz clicks, Liverpool will be ready to write another special season in their history.
