Click to subscribe to the podcast Jordan Storey thought he won it for Preston, but a 92nd-minute equaliser from Sontje Hansen sent the 5,600 Middlesbrough fans into raptures.Targett’s first goal on loan at Middlesbrough came from wonderful work by Manchester City loanee Sverre Nypan, and Edwards has explained how he will use the young midfielder going forward.Photo by Trevor Wilkinson/MI News/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesRob Edwards praises impact of Sverre Nypan for MiddlesbroughEdwards thought Nypan was “instrumental” for Middlesbrough in the draw at Preston, and the 18-year-old certainly was on his third outing for Boro. The Norwegian starlet broke into the Preston box with some magnificent footwork before firing a low cross across which eventually fell to Targett’s right foot for a thumping volley. After the game, Edwards hailed the impact of substitute Nypan. He told the Northern Echo: “He’s [Nypan] a good player, that’s why a massive club like that have signed him.“They do their research, don’t they? They’ve paid a lot of money to bring him to the club, and they have high hopes for him.“He’s still really young though, so we’ve got to make sure we protect him. This league is physical, it’s hard. “So, we’ve got to get it right for him because we want him available for all the games. But he’s already a really good player, and I think he’ll become a top one.”Nypan is in contention for his first Middlesbrough start against West Brom on Friday, but Edwards has suggested he may be used as an impact substitute once again.“It was a brilliant impact from him again,” Edwards added. “We felt with how aggressive they (Preston North End) are and the fact that they’re a big team, pretty large individuals, and physical too, he might be more suited to an impact role.“From the start, when they’re at it, and they’re coming down the line a bit, you could see it in the first half; it was difficult to find the rhythm.“We said to him in training, ‘You and David [Strelec] could come on and win us the game when it starts to open up a bit more’.“All right, we didn’t win it, but we got something from it, and they both made an impact, which was good.”West Brom will pose a similar threat to Boro that Preston did, and given his impact off the bench and other factors at play heading into Friday’s clash, the Man City starlet may have to wait for his first Middlesbrough start despite catching the eye at Deepdale.Photo by Charlotte Tattersall/Getty ImagesSverre Nypan likely to be on bench for Middlesbrough vs West BromNext up, Middlesbrough host West Brom on Friday evening, as Edwards’ side look to preserve their unbeaten status against Ryan Mason’s Baggies. At Deepdale, Nypan replaced Morgan Whittaker, who Middlesbrough fans branded as “lacklustre” for his performance against Preston. After some sections of the travelling supporters sarcastically cheered as the attacker made his way off the field, Edwards criticised the Middlesbrough fans for their Whittaker reaction. Therefore, given Edwards’ public show of faith for the former Plymouth Argyle man, it is unlikely that Nypan will start over Whittaker against the Baggies on Friday. With £6.5m Middlesbrough summer signing David Strelec also fighting for his first start, Edwards is likely to start Nypan on the bench for the upcoming clash once again. However, Edwards will be betting that the youngster can make a similarly brilliant impact as a substitute if required for his table-toppers.
