**Newcastle United are already drawing up a list of potential transfer targets for the winter window despite the summer trading period only coming to an end a couple of weeks ago.**
Eddie Howe was happy with the incoming business the club did in the summer, but as any manager will tell you, there's always room for improvement.
The Magpies brought in Jacob Ramsey to bolster the midfield, but the former Aston Villa man has already picked up an injury that's going to keep him out of action until at least the next international break.
That leaves just Lewis Miley and Joe Willock as back up for the midfield three, and the latter's future at Newcastle is still largely unknown.

Kobbie Mainoo to Newcastle in January?
Newcastle have an eye on Kobbie Mainoo's position at Manchester United
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a strong feeling that Joe Willock could have moved in the summer after a bout of injury problems intertwined with sub-par performances, but the former Arsenal man is still a Newcastle player for now, and is probably the lowest-ranked player in the current squad, in my humble opinion.
Eddie Howe clearly sees things differently as he often turns to Willock before Miley, but soon he could have another young English midfielder to choose from if a recent report from [TalkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/premier-league/3559436/transfer-news-newcastle-mainoo-man-utd-coventry-rudoni-wanchope/) is to be believed.
They claim that Newcastle are keen to capitalise on Ruben Amorim's decision to overlook Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United. The England midfielder burst onto the scene a couple of seasons ago with the English media going on as if the sun shone out of his boots, but Amorim doesn't subscribe to the same view, it seems.
Kobbie Manoo just has to outlast Rubem Amorim
---------------------------------------------
Mainoo wanted to leave Manchester United on loan in the summer, after it became clear he wouldn't be a regular for Amorim, but any move was blocked by the club.
Newcastle will have to wait until January to make a move, and the big thing is whether or not Amorim will still be in the job by then, as this decision is another one that has the Man United squad scratching their heads, feeling that Mainoo should be a regular starter.
We don't expect that Ruben Amorim will still be in the hot seat at Old Trafford come January, so this could all end up being a moot point, but we wouldn't object to signing the 21-year-old if it were possible.
