Some insight into the situation had now been revealed in a new report from Cadena SER. It’s reported that Barcelona did receive messages about Yamal’s injury over the international break.
Journalist Santi Gimenez said: “The Federation says he had no discomfort. But there are messages that Barça has in which they acknowledge ‘we have injected Voltaren into his spine because he couldn’t leave the hotel and asked us not to play.’”
Yamal didn’t just go on to play for Spain after receiving the injection, he actually featured for 72 minutes against Turkey before being taken off.
The fact that Spain were 3-0 up and cruising at half-time makes the decision to leave Yamal on even more baffling and infuriating for Barcelona.
