European manager says club will do something Leeds ‘never did’ for U21 star

There is enough recent evidence to show that Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has not handled young talent well in his short time at the club. Many would dispute this claim as there also is evidence of the contrary.

Farke coached Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter to the best seasons of their career so far; and handed Archie Gray the opportunity to have a breakout season. All three were sold for huge profit last year, as the club needed to pass PSR regulations.

The past two seasons have also seen the Leeds boss overlook, and sometimes ignore some young players in the squad. And some of these situations have lead to departures. Charlie Cresswell never got a chance in the first team, left the club and was one of the hottest prospects available in Europe. Joe Gelhardt also had a brief run in the first team before being left on the bench for a long period; he joined Hull City on loan and had some success.

This summer saw a long list of young players leave Elland Road on loans and permanent deals.

Despite impressing in cameos last season, Largie Ramazani was loaned out with Farke having no explanation as to why. Mateo Joseph also left on loan in search of playing time after inexplicably being dropped to the bench for half a season.

Darko Gyabi also left West Yorkshire on a permanent deal this summer. The former Manchester City starlet was a highly rated youth international, but failed to make the cut at Leeds. He joined Hull City before the transfer window closed.

Tigers boss Sergej Jakirovic is confident that the club can add value by developing the youngster – something he rarely got at Elland Road:

“We can improve him, he’s powerful, good on the ball, good in transitions, good height so he’s what we’ve been looking for until now and I hope he will improve our group a lot, especially in those positions in the midfield zone.” he told Hull Live.

”We have some options with Amir (Hadziahmetovic as well, so but now I’m sleeping better.”

Leeds stand to benefit from the result

The midfielder joined Hull City on a free transfer, but Leeds will have a sell-on clause of 50%. So if the club are able to develop him properly for him to reach his full potential, he will get another move and the Whites will get half of the profit made.

It was a necessary move for Gyabi, who can now get regular playing time and try to get back into the England U21 fold in the future.
