Napoli ‘couldn’t have done better’ in replacing the injured Romelu Lukaku with Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer.
That’s according to journalist Sabatino Durante, [speaking to Area Napoli](https://www.areanapoli.it/interviste/durante-modric-il-colpo-migliore-hojlund-lucca-de-bruyne-lukaku-vi-dico-tutto_606641.html), who believes that Napoli have pulled off something of a coup with the Danish striker despite his struggles at Manchester United.
The Italian champions moved late in the window to sign Hojlund on loan from Old Trafford after Lukaku, a key player for manager Antonio Conte, was ruled out through injury.
A loan deal was eventually agreed with Manchester United on deadline day of the summer transfer window that includes an obligation for Napoli to buy the striker permanently next summer for €44m if they qualify for the Champions League.
For now, the focus is on getting Hojlund back up to speed in Serie A and replacing the goals that Lukaku provided last season.
He’s made a flying start on that front, bagging a goal on his debut as Napoli beat Fiorentina 3-1 away from home on Saturday. That’s made the deal look a good one already and Durante feels they did excellent business.
“The club has solved a significant problem,” he said.
“With Romelu Lukaku’s injury, Antonio Conte has lost his main striker, a key player. But Napoli has been clever in identifying Rasmus Hojlund as the best replacement, considering that the transfer window was about to close.
“I don’t think they could have done better, even though the Danish striker is coming off a less than happy experience at Manchester United.”
