Newcastle keen on January swoop for £60m Manchester United ace - Manchester United News

Newcastle are considering making a move for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in January. Mainoo has fallen out of favour under United manager Ruben Amorim, and requested a loan transfer in the dying days of the summer transfer window.

His request was denied by United however, with Amorim publicly stating the Mainoo must fight United captain Bruno Fernandes for a place in the side. The Red Devils then blocked all approaches for the player.

Mainoo has looked a frustrated figure all season, and found himself once again on the bench for United’s 3-0 loss in the Manchester Derby on Sunday. He has appeared in three of United’s five games in all competitions this season, but only once as a starter – in the shock EFL cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

TalkSport has now reported that Newcastle is keeping tabs on the player, and would consider making a move for Mainoo if is situation remains the same in January. Magpies boss Eddie Howe is a known long term admirer of the player, and would be keen to bring Mainoo to Tyneside.

Newcastle keeping tabs on Mainoo situation

Mainoo has a reported value of £60m but it is yet to be seen if that amount would be enough to temp United into selling. The 21-year-old enjoyed a meteoric rise to stardom, breaking into the first team during the 2023/24 season where he made 24 Premier League appearances.

He scored the winner for Man United in the 2024 FA Cup final, and also made his England debut that summer before starting the 2024 European championship final in Berlin. He has struggled to impress Ruben Amorim since the manager was appointed however, and now appears to be frustrated with his lack of first team minutes.

He was not short on suitors when he submitted his loan request, with as many six clubs known to enquire about his services. Napoli, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Everton, Roma, and Marseille were all credited with serious interest in the player.
