Nottingham Forest kick-off the 2025/26 Carabao Cup campaign against Swansea City on Wednesday evening at the Swansea.com Stadium (kick-off 8pm BST).

Ange Postecoglou took charge of the Reds for the first time on Saturday as Forest faced Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium after just one training session with the first-team squad.

In the Premier League, Forest have four points, having secured victory against Brentford on the opening weekend of the season and a point against Crystal Palace on matchweek two.

In the Championship, the Swans sit a point and a place outside the play-off positions in the second tier.

Alan Sheehan’s side were close to three points against Hull City over the weekend, only for the Tigers to net a 90+7th-minute equaliser to ensure the spoils were shared.

In total, the sides have met 70 times in competitive football, with Forest winning 28 of those matches. Swansea have 26 wins and the remaining 16 matches have resulted in draws.

Under Alan Sheehan, Swansea City have suffered defeat just once this season, that coming against top-of-the-table Middlesbrough in August.

The South Wales side are in the midst of their eighth successive Championship campaign, having suffered relegation from the Premier League in 2017/18, though the Swans have twice finished in the play-off places, losing out to Brentford in the 2021 play-off final.

Swansea have overcome Crawley Town and Plymouth Argyle in this season’s Carabao Cup to set up the clash with the Reds at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Paul Anderson

Paul Anderson

Paul Anderson was part of the Swansea City side that won the League One title in 2007/08, scoring 10 times and laying on nine assists in 41 appearances for the Swans.

His successes in their promotion prompted Forest to sign the winger initially on a season-long loan from Liverpool for the 2008/09 campaign, before the move became permanent ahead of the 2009/10 season.

In total, Anderson made 131 appearances in the Garibaldi, scoring 11 times and providing 17 assists as the Reds reached the Championship play-offs in back-to-back campaigns in 2009/10 and 2010/11.

He departed the City Ground in 2012, playing for six other EFL clubs before retiring from professional football in 2024.

Man in the middle

Robert Madley has been selected to officiate the Reds’ trip to Swansea on Wednesday evening.

The official has not taken charge of a fixture involving the Reds since 2023/24, when he officiated the Reds’ Carabao Cup second-round tie against Burnley at the City Ground.

His last fixture involving the Swans also came in that same season, Swansea’s 2-1 win over Preston North End in the Championship. He has taken charge of three second tier matches this season and one previous match in the Carabao Cup.

Madley has awarded 15 yellow cards and a second yellow once so far this season. He has yet to point to the penalty spot.

Assisting Madley in South Wales will be Mark Russell and Matthew Smith, with Ollie Yates on fourth-official duty.
