West Ham United are in turmoil, with results on the pitch leading to increasing fears that relegation to the Championship could be on the cards this season, so influential figures at the London Stadium need to move quickly and replace head coach Graham Potter with Nuno Espirito Santo as he has a similar style of play to David Moyes.
The Hammers' season went from bad to worse last weekend, with Tomas Soucek being sent off during a convincing defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Large sections of the fanbase were racing for the exit doors with little more than an hour on the clock, when the visitors had given themselves an unassailable three-goal lead.
Thousands of supporters are planning to protest against the owners before their clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday, when they will be looking to return to winning ways, and chairman David Sullivan should be sounding out Nuno if he wants to return to the days of challenging for European qualification.
Nuno Would Have Similar Demands to Moyes
Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo
West Ham fans hated it when they were told to be careful what they wish for when they wanted Moyes to be removed from the dugout, but it is abundantly clear that the east Londoners have only been going downhill since the Scotsman's departure. Julen Lopetegui floundered and was quickly axed, while Potter has overseen heavy defeats.
Another change is necessary if the Hammers want to stand a chance of avoiding being dragged into a relegation dogfight and, following his sacking by Premier League counterparts Nottingham Forest last week, the capital club should look no further than Nuno when seeking a fresh voice in the dressing room.
The 51-year-old tactician - who did the 'perfect' job at Forest according to Darren Bent - guided the Tricky Trees to European qualification during the 2024/25 campaign, highlighting that he would be capable of steering West Ham into contention for a return to continental action if he is backed, and he also has similar demands to UEFA Conference League-winning chief Moyes.
Nuno loves his side to play on the counter-attack at the same time as being defensively solid. Nottingham Forest were able to implement his game plan to a tee last season, allowing them to be preparing for a Europa League clash against Spanish side Real Betis under new boss Ange Postecoglou next week.
West Ham were among the country's best sides on the break under Moyes. The sight of current captain Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio driving forward at pace struck fear into defenders, so returning to a similar style of play could be beneficial as they aim to pull away from the relegation zone.
Hammers Need to Convince Nuno to Take Job
Nuno Espirito Santo
A 3-0 defeat to West Ham last month proved to be Nuno's final match in charge of Nottingham Forest, thanks to owner Evangelos Marinakis wielding the axe during the international break, and key decision-makers behind the scenes at the London Stadium should be doing all they can to convince him to succeed Potter.
Having the ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers boss on board would result in the Hammers becoming more difficult for opponents to break down, which is desperately needed after conceding 11 goals in their first four Premier League fixtures of the season, and it is likely that he is already open to a new challenge as he did not want to leave the City Ground.
Nuno would be Moyes 2.0. That is not to be sniffed at considering the position West Ham have found themselves in. But the east Londoners need to pounce while he is available as his record at Nottingham Forest means he will not be short of offers over the course of the coming months.
