New York Giants pass rusher Abdul Carter has not had the best start to his rookie year.
Through two games, the former Nittany Lion hasn't made the impact expected of a No. 3 overall pick, recording four tackles, two quarterback hits, and only half a sack.
Although Carter only saw 54% of defensive snaps in Week 1, he was up to 75% in Week 2, and still couldn't make any splash plays. Now, the magnifying glass is on the third overall pick, and he must start to pop before the bust label is placed on him.
Abdul Carter Labeled 'Under the Most Pressure' Entering Week 3
--------------------------------------------------------------
Bleacher Report's Alex Kay wrote a piece regarding six players under the most pressure in the NFL entering Week 3, and Carter was named as one of those underachieving players.
"Carter has managed to make some semblance of a positive impact—including helping out on an interception and contributing several other strong reps—but he's been inconsistent and credited with just a single pressure thus far," wrote Kay.
"The Penn State product must improve if the Giants are going to have any chance of turning things around after a winless start. Unfortunately it won't get any easier for Carter and co. with a desperate Chiefs squad heading to MetLife Stadium seeking their first win of the season in the impending Week 3 clash."
With a struggling Kansas City Chiefs squad on deck for New York, Carter must step up his game and prove to the Giants that he is worthy of the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Chiefs' offense has looked pedestrian thus far, and their offensive tackles are far from world-beaters. The former Penn State standout must capitalize on the opportunity in front of him, especially with talented pass rushers Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux garnering so much attention.
It remains to be seen how Carter will perform Sunday night, but it's important to note the national audience will be watching him to make impact plays.
