It’s week two, and we’re talking about 50-burgers.
Yes, the Chicago Bears are truly back. And by “back,” I mean the same as they’ve been since 2012.
Yet, we still keep coming back.
The Bears are 0-2 and got absolutely throttled by the Detroit Lions.
We thought there would be growing pains, but I’m not sure we considered it without the growing part.
It’s hard to find something to salvage from a performance like this, but we have to. So onward we go.
**Rome Odunze, WR -** Odunze hit career highs with 7 catches for 128 yards and a career-high-tying two touchdowns. It’s week two and he’s matched his touchdown receptions from his entire rookie season.
**D’Andre Swift, RB -** I understand the criticism he draws. He’s not a bellcow back and he’s not an elite RB. His overall game is limited by his lack of vision to change course and find the right lane. Chicago’s running game isn’t by any means good, but Swift was just fine Sunday. He averaged over 5 yards per carry before the game got out of hand and there were no handoffs to be had. Even his fumble was just a fantastic hit by Brian Branch. I can’t even knock Swift too much for that.
**Darnell Wright, RT -** Two more false starts this week. Wright is trending in the wrong direction in year three for a former top-10 pick. Brutal.
**Montez Sweat, DE -** The defensive line depth is a problem overall, but Sweat is a non-factor too often. He’s the highest-paid defender that’s currently healthy and 11th-highest-paid EDGE. He needs to start winning more often.
**Tyrique Stevenson, CB -** Has a player gone from promising to washout quicker than Stevenson. At some point we have to stop talking about that one play from that one game last year and just ask if there is ever going to be growth for the player. Right now the answer is no.
_Who is on your up and down list? And yes, I didn’t even bother picking a third one for up because the game was so bad. So share who you would give the third stock up spot to in the comments._
